Letter to Congress on Gun Ban Legislation: You Have Rights! Let Your Voice Be Heard!

If you follow my Twitter (@PsychScriv) you will see I am definitely pro-gun and a defender of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. Anti-gun legislation, laws, bills, and proposals are spiraling out of control, Gun-Control-Obamaflying left and right (more from the left), and frankly, I’m sick and tired of it. Plus it frustrates and angers me. Please, those of you in agreement with me on this really need to contact your local, state, and federal representatives to let them know NOT to pass any of this gun control legislation. NOW! And I mean NOW!

If you are thinking to yourself:
1) “My one letter won’t make a difference! My opinion won’t be heard!” … You’re WRONG! or…
2) “It’ll take too much time to compose a letter and besides, I don’t have time. … Believe me you will regret NOT saying anything when your rights are more aggressively infringed upon if you don’t.

Consider this to the excuses above:

gunimages#1: If you add your voice to your neighbor’s voice, your community’s, your city’s, your county’s, your state’s, and to all the other Americans that feel the same way you do IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

#2: I’ll make it very easy and not very time consuming to write. This blog post contains the letter I am sending to my representatives. I give you permission to copy it word for word, to use parts of it, or to use it as a guide in creating your own letter to send. And at the end of this post I have provided a link that will help you find who your representatives are and where to send it.

Dear ___________,

This is a very difficult time right now in our country: high and increasing taxes, national debt at an unthinkable and unimaginable amount, widespread unemployment, high prices all around (and continue to rise), and of course, all the controversy in regard to the gun control issue.

I was very devastated and still cannot believe what happened in Newtown, CT last month just like every American, I am sure. The loss of those children and adults is indeed a horrific tragedy. I am deeply distressed that emotionally unstable, mentally unbalanced, or pure evil individuals like Adam Lanza exist and would do harm to those who should be protected from terrible violence and attack like this. I wish with all my heart there was a magic wand I could wave that would prevent someone from murdering others in cold blood, no matter how it’s done or with what kind of weapon.

We CANNOT allow emotions guide decisions. This undermines the very basis of our government from those who fought to secure our rights outlined in the United States Constitution. With that being said, I feel that what President Obama, the US Congressmen and Congresswomen, state governors, and other members of the House and Senate are pushing is not the answer and unfortunately will have no consequence other than limiting the freedom and rights of responsible and legal gun owners in America. I also feel this will create a dangerous slippery slope leading to further infringement on American citizens’ rights.

criminalimagesThe legislation being introduced to ban so-called “assault” rifles and high-capacity magazines, along with the 23 other executive proposals outlined by President Obama and including Senator Feinstein’s proposed gun ban bill, are NOT the solution. This is an emotional time and I reiterate, emotional reactions should NOT be driving solutions to this tragedy, especially where this emotion causes the division of our “one nation under God” AND violates our Constitutional rights that have been in place for over two centuries.

I’m not going to barrage you with statistics, because let’s face it, statistics can be altered and skewed to support either side of an argument. But consider this… If a magazine is limited to a maximum of 10 rounds, do you really think this would prevent a psychopath from going on a killing spree? I say probably not. It may prevent someone from killing a larger number of people, but it might not. As I mentioned earlier, this limitation just will lead to a very precarious slippery slope. Think about it, what kind of legislation will be proposed next if an individual uses several 10 round magazines to kill people? Will law-abiding citizens then be limited to seven rounds? Five rounds? Three rounds? Will the government go so far as to propose a limit of only one round? I’m sure you understand the point I’m trying to make.

You have the authority and ability to defend us from attempts made by the federal government to take our rights and I respectfully ask you to vote against this anti-gun legislation that has been proposed. Please don’t succumb to the pressure of those politicians who are undermining the very core of our Constitution, whether they realize it or not, or whether they care or they don’t care.

If you truly want to protect our children, deadlyimagesthen use the power of your office, along with the voice of the people, to preserve our freedom and liberty. By banning firearms that are rarely used in crime is not going to stop tragedies like Newtown. The Columbine shooting that took place in 1999 under the 1994 ban should be proof to that fact.

I am not asking you to ignore or to take these types of tragedies lightly. There are other proactive instead of reactive alternatives in helping to prevent these. Why not place armed security guards in our schools as the NRA suggested? Or make sure more mental health help is available, and at the same time, not deter individuals from seeking help for fear of losing their constitutional rights.

Please don’t allow our rights or our personal property to be taken away by passing additional anti-gun laws that haven’t shown any positive effect in the past in either the United States of America or other countries currently and throughout history.

Sincerely, a concerned and law-abiding citizen,

(Your Name)

Greetings from Texas. I talk about my favorite in the great pumpkin shoot. We had a student from Canada attending the local college. She had never held a firearm, let alone shoot one. That day she went through every firearm we had there and she had a ball. It amazes me that at the end of the day she still supported Canada’s firearms policy. The up side is she no longer thinks people with guns are crazy.
